Resum
This chapter explores the challenges of portraying gendered identities in translation
and the accessibility of audiovisual fiction. Our purpose is to focus on
gender identity issues within an inclusive view of gender, with an emphasis on
diversity, whether it is linguistic, functional or sexual. The general aim of the
chapter is to analyse the implications of translating and making accessible
(through dubbing, subtitling and audio description) audiovisual productions
that either reinforce or break down old stereotypes and incorporate new gendered
images. In line with contemporary gender studies, this chapter broadens
the focus of gendered identities by addressing the presence and construction
of queer and nonbinary characters in audiovisual products and their translation.
Thus, we explore some of the discursive processes found in the media in
the recreation of normative constructions and language that represent LGTB+
identities.
