Pràctiques de disseny gràfic alternatives al model estudi

Abstract

Aquesta tesi estudia pràctiques de disseny gràfic que s'allunyen de la manera de fer i pensar del model estudi-client, on el dissenyador parteix d'un encàrrec fixat. La recerca es basa en una definició relacional d'autonomia, entesa com la capacitat de gestionar les relacions amb el context (Escobar, 2017; Varela i Maturana, 1972). El disseny gràfic és alhora objecte d'estudi i mètode de recerca: la tesi crea mètodes visuals per analitzar el procés de treball i les interdependències del dissenyador amb el seu context, els actors amb qui treballa i les idees que comunica. Els casos mostren que fora de l'estudi hi ha oportunitats per millorar la posició del dissenyador. La recerca vol qüestionar i ampliar els límits del que anomenem “disseny gràfic” i legitimar diverses maneres de practicar-lo que aconsegueixen resoldre algunes de les mancances de la professió.

This thesis examines graphic design practices that deviate from the ways of working and thinking typical of the studio-client model, where the designer starts from a set assignment. The research is based on a relational definition of autonomy, understood as the capacity to manage relationships with the context (Escobar, 2017; Varela and Maturana, 1972). Graphic design is both the subject of study and a research method: the thesis creates visual methods to analyze the work process and the interdependencies of the designer with their context, the actors they work with, and the ideas they communicate. The cases show that outside the studio there are opportunities to improve the designer’s position. The research aims to question and expand the boundaries of what we call “graphic design”, and to legitimize diverse ways of practicing it that solve some of the profession’s shortcomings.
