An analysis of Prince Cinders and Cinder-Elly through a gender perspective: masculinities and femininities

Abstract

Gender has emerged as an important social issue in our current European culture. Thus, schools are facing the new need focusing their beliefs on an equal gender perspective. The current study aims to deeply analyze the elements of the English Literature taking into account the masculinities and femininities established in a patriarchal context. In order to do that, two story books influenced by Cinderella have been meticulously read and compared. The study closes with conclusions and lines of further research.

El gènere s'ha convertit en un tema social rellevant en la nostra cultura europea actual. És per això que les escoles han vist la necessitat d'enfocar el seu ideari des d'una perspectiva de gènere més igualitària. El present estudi pretén analitzar profundament els elements de la literatura infantil anglesa tenint en compte les masculinitats i feminitats establertes en un context patriarcal. Per tal de fer-ho, s'han analitzat i comparat dos contes infantils inspirats en el conte tradicional de Perrault, la Ventafocs. L'estudi finalitza amb conclusions i pròximes línies de recerca.
