Subtitulación de teatro musical para personas sordas: propuesta de subtitulado de Billy Elliot the Musical Live

Abstract

Este trabajo analiza la accesibilidad en el teatro musical desde un punto de vista general según factores económicos, geográficos y lingüísticos, así como en un contexto más específico, según afecta a las personas con discapacidad sensorial auditiva. Tras identificar las carencias de la industria de este tipo de producciones, se proponen diferentes alternativas para facilitar la accesibilidad de las mismas a un público más amplio, entre las que se encuentran la comercialización de grabaciones profesionales del espectáculo en cuestión, el subtitulado o sobretitulado en diferido, o la interpretación en lengua de signos. Por último, en la parte práctica se incluye una propuesta de subtitulado siguiendo la norma UNE 153010 (2012) de cinco números del musical Billy Elliot the Muslcal live, realizada siguiendo el proceso completo desde la transcripción de las escenas hasta la creación de los archivos de subtitulado. Como conclusión, se resalta que al teatro musical le queda un largo camino que recorrer en términos de accesibilidad, pero también que el subtitulado ofrece resultados lo suficientemente sólidos para garantizar que las personas que sufren de una discapacidad auditiva puedan disfrutar de este tipo de espectáculos.

The objective of this project is to analyse accessibility in the musical theatre industry, both in a more general way according to economical, geographical and linguistic elements, and from a more focused point of view, examining the issues that concern the hearing impaired community. After identifying the weakest points of the industry, several options that would help make musical theatre more accessible are presented, such as making professional recordings of shows available to the public, the implementation of subtitling and surtitling tracks, or sign language interpretation during the performances. In order to prove the viability of subtitles as a tool to help make shows more accessible, a proposal of subtitling of five songs of Billy Elliot the Musical live has been elaborated following the indications of the 2012 UNE 153010 rule, following a process that goes from the transcription of every scene to the creation of the subtitle tracks. The conclusions reached highlight the fact that the musical theatre industry still has a long way to go in terms of accessibility, but also that subtitling does offer solid enough results to ensure that those who are part of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community can enjoy this kind of shows.
