Resumen
Storytelling has long been a cornerstone of human culture, shaping the ways we understand and engage with the world around us. Since its creation in 2018, the International Conference Storytelling Revisited, hosted every year in Vic, has explored this tradition, bringing into focus the diverse ways storytelling can impact individuals and influence societal dynamics. This ongoing dialogue has been pivotal to the research and discussions held during the conference.
This volume includes some of the most notable contributions of the sixth edition of the conference, entitled: “Storytelling Revisited: Narrating within the Cultural Industries: Platforms, Stories, and Narratives,” held in Vic (Barcelona) on November 22-23, 2023. The conference provided an interdisciplinary forum for educators, students, researchers, and industry professionals to delve into the evolving landscape of storytelling within cultural industries, emphasizing the transformative role of digital platforms and the narratives they foster.
Organized by the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC), this event brought together various research groups, including GLOSSA and GETLIHC from the Faculty of Education, Translation, Sports and Psychology (FETEP); TRACTE from FETEP and the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies (FEC); EMPREN from FEC; and ISaMBeS from the Faculty of Health Sciences and Welfare (FCSB).
The conference concentrated on the concept of “platformisation” (Nieborg & Poell, 2018), a term that encapsulates the integration of cultural practices into digital platforms. This idea is pivotal, as scholars such as Poell, Nieborg and van Dijck (2019) argue that platformisation transforms cultural practices reorganizing them around digital platforms, while at the same time these practices shape platforms’ institutional dimensions.
