Resumen
This scoping review is part of the project "Drets i Desigualtats en la Intersecció: Explorant les polítiques públiques i les experiències viscudes de persones LGTBI+ d'orígens o contextos islàmics a Catalunya," financed by the Department of Equality and Feminisms in Catalonia. This project aims to analyse the lived experiences of LGBTIQ individuals from Islamic backgrounds in Catalonia, with a focus on understanding public policies and lived experiences.
Research on queer Muslim experiences in the Global North is limited and often problematised, pathologised, or exoticised in academic discourse. The existing literature predominantly focuses on Anglo-Saxon contexts like the UK and the US, leaving a gap in understanding the European experience. Furthermore, public policies, including those related to equality and LGBTIQ rights, frequently overlook cultural and religious diversity, affecting their efficacy and inclusivity. This scoping review seeks to address this gap by mapping and analysing the academic literature on the lived experiences of queer Muslims in Europe.
