Traducciones y censura. La obra de George Sand durante la dictadura franquista

Abstract

Este artículo analiza las dificultades que tuvieron ante los censores franquistas las obras de George Sand, escritora que encarnaba un modelo de mujer emancipada, intelectual, crítica con el sistema, con la familia tradicional y simpatizante del socialismo y el comunismo, movimientos estigmatizados por el régimen. Recorreremos la censura administrativa y moral de una muestra representativa de su prolífica producción literaria. Nos centraremos en concreto en las traducciones al español de Indiana, Mauprat, Francisco el expósito y Ella y él.

The aim of this study is to analyse the obstacles that censorship posed to George Sand’s works. The author embodied a model of the emancipated intellectual woman, one who was critical of the dominant social system and of the traditional family and who, furthermore, expressed sympathies with socialism and communism, anathema to the Franco regime in Spain. We will review the processes of administrative and moral censorship as they were applied to a representative sample of the writer’s prolific literary production. Specifically, we will focus on the Spanish translations of Indiana, Mauprat, Francisco el expósito and Ella y él.
