Josep Maria Planes, un referent per aprendre periodisme

Abstract

Al segle xxi, el periodisme viu una desorientació general amb discursos catastrofistes sobre la fi de la premsa que desanimen estudiants i professors d’aquesta carrera universitària. Per fer front al desànim, la innovació docent aplicada al periodisme es fixa avui en els reptes de futur de la revolució digital. Aquest article defensa, però, que la innovació també es pot aconseguir gràcies al coneixement de la tradició. S’explica l’experiència de la Universitat de Vic - Universitat Central de Catalunya per buscar la motivació de l’alumnat amb l’estudi d’una figura històrica, propera i excepcional: el periodista manresà Josep Maria Planes (1907-1936), assassinat per denunciar el pistolerisme urbà anarquista d’abans de la Guerra Civil espanyola. S’analitza si el mestratge de Planes continua vigent i com el seu testimoni vital s’integra en la formació universitària actual. Com que Planes va perdre la vida als vint-i-nou anys, la seva biografia pot despertar inquietud intel·lectual entre els joves.

Journalism is experiencing in the 21st century a widespread disorientation with alarmist speeches about the end of the press that discourage the students and teachers of this university degree. In order to deal with this despondency, teaching innovation in journalism is focused today on the future challenges of the digital revolution. This paper posits, however, that innovation can also be achieved through a knowledge of tradition. Here we explain the experience of the University of Vic (UVic) in its attempt to motivate students through the study of a close and exceptional historical figure: the local journalist Josep Maria Planes (1907-1936), who was killed for reporting on the anarchist urban pistolerismo or hired-gunman violence before the Spanish Civil War. A study is made of whether the ideas taught by Planes are still valid and whether the testimony of his life fits in with today’s university education. Since he lost his life at the age of 29, his biography may arouse students’ intellectual interest.
