Horse riding is a sport that can cause low back pain (LBP) in riders due to weakness of
the deep trunk muscles, movements of the intervertebral discs or lack of joint width of
the hip. The aim of this study is to know the effect on LBP of riders of a combined exercise
program composed of stretching of the hip joint, core musculature strengthening, and
exercises based on the McKenzie method.
The study will have a sample composed of riders and will be carried out through the
randomization of participants in a control group without treatment and an experimental
group performing the exercise program for 10 weeks. The assessment of the pain will be
fulfilled by means of the verbal numerical scale before starting the intervention, the fifth
and the last week.

Subsequently, the results will be analysed with the statistical program SPSS. We will
compare the pain before and after the treatment of both groups to know the effect of the
combined exercises on LBP.
If the expected results are confirmed, the study will serve the physiotherapists of practical
use. They will be able to propose the combination of the exercises of the study to improve
the LBP of riders.
