El doblaje de series de humor. Análisis del doblaje en español y alemán de los referentes culturales y elementos humorísticos de la comedia de situación The Big Bang Theory

Abstract

Este Trabajo de Fin de Grado explora las dificultades y desafíos de la traducción del humor en textos audiovisuales, tomando como referencia el doblaje en español y alemán de la popular comedia de situación estadounidense The Big Bang Theory (TBBT). En la parte teórica se introduce a grandes rasgos el argumento de la serie y las características de su protagonistas principales. Seguidamente, se explica en qué consiste la traducción audiovisual, se establece una breve diferenciación entre la subtitulación y el doblaje y se describe el proceso técnico de esta última modalidad con más detalle. A continuación, se define el humor a través de las teorías clásicas de la incongruencia y la superioridad y se presentan las aportaciones y sugerencias más recientes de Patrick Zabalbeascoa y Juan José Martínez Sierra con respecto a la traducción del humor. Se destacan las dificultades que presenta este tipo de traducción y la estrategias empleadas para conseguir mantener el efecto humorístico del texto original en la versión doblada. Este apartado cuenta con ejemplos extraídos de la serie objeto de este estudio que apoyan los conceptos teóricos presentados. La parte teórica concluye con un análisis de las variedades lingüísticas que se aprecian en la serie y el tratamiento de canciones y música en las versiones dobladas apoyada también con ejemplos de la serie. En la parte práctica del trabajo, se analizan en detalle ejemplos seleccionados de TBBT. Se comparan las técnicas que se han utilizado para la resolución de problemas de traducción en la versión española y alemana y se destacan cuáles de ellas han dado un resultado satisfactorio y cuáles han perdido parte o incluso todo el efecto humorístico del texto original.

This thesis examines the difficulties and challenges of translating humor in audiovisual texts, taking as a reference the dubbing of the Spanish and German versions of the popular American TV comedy The Big Bang Theory (TBBT). The first part is dedicated to theoretical aspects of the subject. It starts with the presentation of the plot of the sitcom and resumes, in broad strokes, the characteristics of its main protagonists. Next, audiovisual translation is explained, a brief differentiation between subtitling and dubbing is established and the technical process of the latter modality is described in more detail. Consequently, humor is defined through the classical theories of incongruity and superiority and the more recent contributions and suggestions by Patrick Zabalbeascoa and Juan José Martínez Sierra with respect to the subject of audiovisual translation of humor are presented. The difficulties inherent to this type of translation and the strategies employed to maintain the humorous effect of the original text in the dubbed version are highlighted. This section of the thesis contains examples taken from The Big Bang Theory to illustrate the theoretical concepts presented. The theoretical part concludes with an analysis of the linguistic varieties apparent in The Big Bang Theory and the treatment given to songs and music in the dubbed versions, illustrated as well by several examples extracted from different episodes. The second part of this study consists of a more detailed analysis of selected examples of the TV comedy. It compares the techniques that have been used to solve translation problems in the dubbing of the Spanish and German versions and point out which of them have given a satisfactory result and which have lost part or even all of the humorous effect of the original text.
