Exploring grammar and vocabulary through a catalan festivity-themed escape room in the upper cycle firecrackers are gone!

Abstract

The current dissertation aims to design an Educative Escape Room proposal for students in the upper cycle of Primary Education with the UNESCO World Heritage Site festivity Patum as the main theme, thereby addressing the CLIL approach. The proposal is based on two different perspectives: to introduce or review vocabulary related to the Patum festival, and to revise or consolidate grammar using implicit linguistic structures learned or worked on in the upper cycle of Primary Education. Once the proposal and didactic guide has been fully designed in accordance with the methodology's criteria and with children's motivation in mind, their effectiveness was evaluated using a survey that included feedback from English teachers and language experts.

La presente tesis tiene como objetivo diseñar una propuesta de Escape Room educativo para los alumnos de ciclo superior de Educación Primaria con la festividad de la Patum, Patrimonio de la Humanidad de la UNESCO como hilo conductor, abordando así el enfoque AICLE. La propuesta parte de dos perspectivas distintas: introducir o repasar vocabulario relacionado con la fiesta de la Patum, y revisar o consolidar la gramática utilizando estructuras lingüísticas implícitas aprendidas o trabajadas en el ciclo superior de Educación Primaria. Una vez diseñada íntegramente la propuesta y la guía didáctica de acuerdo con los criterios de la metodología y teniendo en cuenta la motivación de los niños, se evaluó su eficacia mediante una encuesta que incluyó el feedback de maestras de inglés y expertas en lengua.
