Teaching vocabulary through narrative and stories

Abstract

Mitjançant la lectura de contes en veu alta, els nens poden aprendre vocabulari d'EFL (anglès com a llengua estrangera), i a la vegada, desenvolupar el seu gust per a la lectura. A més, els contes ofereixen moltes oportunitats als alumnes per a poder desenvolupar les quatre habilitats que es calen per a adquirir un idioma: parlar, escoltar, llegir i escriure. La clau per a aconseguir-ho és saber com convertir la lectura en una activitat motivadora i agradable. Els objectius principals d'aquest treball són:  Cercar informació sobre l´adquisició del llenguatge infantil i metodologies per a l ´ensenyament d´una llengua.  Saber què són els contes il·lustrats i les seves característiques, i cercar informació sobre maneres d'integrar els contes a l'hora de treballar qualsevol habilitat lingüística.  Elegir un conte, seguint criteris teòrics reconeguts, per explicar als alumnes.  Saber si els infants poden ampliar el seu vocabulari gràcies als contes.  Descobrir quins tipus d´activitats es poden dur a terme mitjançant els contes.  Buscar autors de referència que presentin un exemple de criteri per a seleccionar contes per a explicar en veu alta, informació sobre tècniques per a la lectura en veu alta dels contes i maneres d'avaluar-me com a mestra.  Intentar posar a pràctica a l'aula el que he après de les bases teòriques dels autors a l'hora d'explicar un conte en veu alta.

Through storytelling, children can learn EFL vocabulary while developing their interest in reading. In addition, stories give young learners opportunities to develop the four skills for learning any language: speaking, listening, reading and writing. The key is to know how to make reading and storytelling enjoying activities. The main objectives of this project are:  To gather information related to child language acquisition and methods and approaches in language teaching.  To find out what storybooks and their characteristics are and gather information about ways of integrating storybooks with language skills.  To select, following relevant theoretical criteria, a storybook to read in the classroom.  To examine whether young children can improve their vocabulary through storybooks.  To find out what type of activities can be carried out through storybooks.  To search for authors whose works meet criteria for selecting storybooks, techniques for storytelling and ways of assessing the results.  To try to put into practice what I have learnt from the theoretical basis set forth by the authors studied in a real classroom when telling the story.
