Exploring the Power of Routines in Preschool English Learning

Abstract

The aim of the present study is to observe and discover if linguistic routines fosters English vocabulary learning and its effectiveness as an educative tool in preschool classrooms. To do so, the researcher carried out several routine observations, which had been previously established by the English teacher of the center where this study was conducted. For observing and collecting data of the children’s performance along with the previous routine implemented, an observation grid is used. Moreover, three tests have been done before and after the creation and implementation of an expanded routine in order to assess the average of known and not-known vocabulary and its acquisition. The results of this study are presented in this paper.

L'objectiu del present estudi és observar i descobrir si les rutines lingüístiques fomenten l'aprenentatge de vocabulari anglès i la seva eficàcia com a eina educativa a les aules de preescolar. Per fer-ho, es van realitzar diverses observacions rutinàries, prèviament establertes per la mestra d'anglès del centre on l’estudi va ser portat a terme. Per a l'observació i recollida de dades del rendiment dels infants al llarg de la rutina prèviament establerta, s'utilitza una graella d'observació. A més, s'han dut a terme tres proves abans i després de la creació i implementació d'una rutina ampliada per tal d'avaluar la mitjana de vocabulari conegut i desconegut i la seva adquisició. Els resultats d'aquest estudi es presenten en aquesta memòria.
