La traducció de productes sanitaris: descripció, traducció i anàlisi de les instruccions d’un ventilador

Abstract

La traducció de textos sobre productes sanitaris és d’especial interès perquè el sector de la salut genera una gran demanda a les empreses de serveis lingüístics, la indústria dels productes sanitaris té un paper cada cop més important en l’economia de la Unió Europea i perquè a Espanya la normativa exigeix que les instruccions i l’etiquetatge d’aquests productes estiguin com a mínim en castellà. Com que també hi ha una part de demanda de traduccions cap al català, aquest treball consisteix en la traducció anglès català del manual de l’usuari d’un ventilador hospitalari i en l’elaboració d’un glossari trilingüe amb la terminologia del text. De la recerca de termes corresponent s’ha pogut comprovar que més de la meitat d’unitats terminològiques del text de sortida tenien un equivalent establert en català normalitzat pel TERMCAT, mentre que per trobar la resta d’equivalents en català ha calgut recórrer a altres recursos lingüístics en castellà. D’altra banda, de l’anàlisi dels patrons discursius i l’àmbit d’especialització dels termes s’ha observat que un manual com aquest inclou subtipus textuals d’altres branques, com són les àrees tècnica i legal. Finalment, hi ha hagut un equilibri en les estratègies de traducció directes i obliqües emprades que no s’ha vist gaire alterat segons el subtipus textual.

The translation of texts about medical devices is of special interest because the healthcare sector generates a high demand for language service providers, the medical devices industry plays an increasingly important role in the economy of the European Union, and because the law in Spain requires instructions and labels of such products to be, at least, in Spanish. Since there is also some demand for translations into Catalan, this work consists of the English-Catalan translation of a user manual of a ventilator for in-hospital use and the creation of a trilingual glossary with the terminology from the text. From this term search, it was determined that more than half of the terminological units from the source text had an equivalent translation in Catalan that had been approved by TERMCAT, the Catalan institution in charge of terminology standardization. However, in order to find the rest of the equivalent translations in Catalan, resorting to language resources in Spanish was needed. On the other hand, by analysing discourse patterns and the area of specialization of the terms, it was observed that a manual such as this includes text subtypes from other fields, namely technical and legal areas. Lastly, there was a balance in the direct and oblique translation techniques used, which was not affected by the text subtype.
